SGMC Group Limited, (which includes SGMC UK Limited) was established in 2000 primarily as a vehicle for developing business opportunities by Stephen McLarnon, founder & Managing Director, upon leaving his role as Manager (Executive Search & Selection) in BDO Simpson Xavier (Chartered Accountants) to establish his first venture AccountantsJobs.com.

In 2001, AccountantsJobs.com was officially launched by Charlie McCreevy T.D. the then Minister for Finance in April 2001 presenting the website as Ireland’s only job board dedicated to the recruitment of Accountants & Financial Services Professionals. AccountantsJobs.com was acquired in February 2002 by one of the UK’s leading Job Boards, Jobsin.co.uk Plc, for an undisclosed sum.

In 2002 with the backing of the Jobsin.co.uk Plc Board, Stephen established a joint venture between SGMC Group & Jobsin.co.uk Plc, creating another internet recruitment venture, JobsinHealth.ie. Similar to the AccountantsJobs.com model, this site specialised in the online recruitment of health professionals and utilised the substantial network of the UK’s largest health recruitment website, JobsinHealth.co.uk, also owned by Jobsin.co.uk Plc.

Late 2003 saw Jobsin.co.uk Plc acquired by the Hot Group Plc, (later acquired by The Trinity Mirror Group) resulting in Stephen initiating & completing a successful Management Buyout of the Irish entity. In very quick succession, Stephen acquired his biggest competitor in the Irish Market, HealthSectorJobs.com from Doherty Advertising and set about a complete re-branding of the JobsinHealth.ie proposition to HealthSectorJobs.com. In 2007, HealthSectorJobs.com was sold to Independent News & Media Plc for an undisclosed sum.

Since 2001, Stephen has held several non-executive directorships & advised/invested in a range of start-ups including Trytime International (a Health Recruitment Agency), Pharma Seek Recruitment (a Start up on behalf of Uniphar Plc for the recruitment of pharmacists across the IPOS Network of Pharmacies) and Accreate Financial Recruitment (Non-Executive Director). Stephen continues to act as an Advisor to the Order of Discalced Carmelites on projects which examine the utilisation of various assets, primarily Community Houses & Retreat Centres the Order holds.

Since 2005, SGMC Group has become one of Ireland’s fastest growing and innovative Exhibition Owners & Promoters with an extensive range of successful exhibitions including The Health Recruitment Expo, The Down Under Expo (4 Shows), The Fresh Start Expo, The Australia Needs Skills Expo on behalf of the Commonwealth Government of Australia, The BT Small Business & Franchise Show (Dublin, Cork & Belfast) and The Adventure Travel & Gap Year Show .
